Five questions to answer
Starters: who actually enters your lineup, and who leaves it?
Roles: does the trade solve a need and respect the league’s restrictions?
Reliability: how much depends on availability or playing time that remains uncertain?
Depth: which replacements remain if someone cannot play?
Credits: where included, do they improve or reduce your flexibility?
For each dimension, select a deterioration, no change or an improvement. Use “Needs checking” when you cannot yet answer. Missing information is not a neutral result.
Worked case: an improvement with a condition
Fictional example: you give midfielder A, currently your first reserve, and receive forward B, whom you would start. Your assessment says the starting lineup improves. You gain an attacking option, but only one midfield replacement remains.
If that replacement provides enough cover, the trade may serve your objective. If the remaining player is unavailable or cannot cover the required role, the benefit needs reconsidering. The useful conclusion is conditional: “This improves the attack, provided the remaining midfield cover is adequate.”
Separate facts from assumptions
Role eligibility and a market deadline are rule checks. Your expectation about a player’s future use is an assumption. Keep them separate so a persuasive assessment does not hide a restriction that makes the deal unusable.
When circumstances change, reopen the assessment. Do more than replace a name: check the final lineup again. A trade prepared before availability news may call for a different decision afterwards.
Turn the method into a decision
Open the trade evaluator, complete the five dimensions and read unresolved issues first. Then review improvements. Assess another offer against the same original squad in the comparator.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a price for every player?
No. This method assesses squad effects. It does not produce a market valuation.
Can a field stay uncertain?
Yes. The result marks the assessment as incomplete and identifies the check you need to make.
Does this work during the season?
Yes, when you use an up-to-date squad snapshot and follow your league’s trade windows.
