Look at the next replacement

For each involved player, identify whom you would use instead. If you give a defender, the comparison includes the replacement you retain, not just the defender you receive. Many names in one department do not necessarily mean many usable options.

Available players on the market matter only when you can actually access them. Do not count a potential free agent as confirmed cover when your league’s rules or market window prevent an acquisition.

Worked case: two improvements, one need

Fictional example: you can receive a forward who replaces an already adequate starter or a midfielder who covers a role with no alternative. The forward may be your favourite player overall, but the midfielder may fix your squad’s most important weakness.

Choose “Roles and coverage” in the comparator if that is the real problem. Still check whether giving up the requested player creates a new gap elsewhere.

Classic and Mantra

In Classic, check required places and department limits. In Mantra, detailed roles and allowed formations make a generic label such as “defender” or “midfielder” insufficient. Verify that the player can occupy the place you intend to fill.

FullSoccer does not automatically consult an up-to-date role list. The tool asks you to confirm compatibility. If you cannot, leave the check open rather than calling an unusable player a reinforcement.

Frequently asked questions

Should I always target the rarest role?

No. It needs to be scarce among alternatives you can actually obtain and useful to your squad.

Do more players in a department mean more depth?

Only if they can replace starters in the roles you need.

Can I compare players from different departments?

Yes, when the operation is permitted. Compare the squad change rather than an abstract equivalence between positions.
